01 Where It Began

The Ignition

The Race Reels® journey began with a simple challenge: create a better ratchet strap for securing surfboards. Like operators everywhere, we had accepted the threading, tangles, excess webbing and hand-rolling built into conventional ratchets.

Once examined properly, it became clear that the problem was not one feature—it was the entire conventional ratchet design and the issues that is caused throughout the entire load-restraint workflow.

02 Research & Development

The R&D Journey

We then analysed the conventional-ratchet workflow in depth across loading, transit, unloading and storage, identifying 17 separate problems that operators repeatedly encounter.

Each problem was addressed through extensive research, development, prototyping and testing. The result was the patented Race Reels® side-loading ratchet and separate reel system—a complete redesign of how load-restraint webbing is deployed, tensioned, released and stored.
